THRIVE Episode 17: Interview with Jenni Hubby

I am so glad that you are here!  This blog is a series format. This means each month you will hear about different mental health topics. These are issues I’m thinking about, seeing in my office, or have personally experienced. Here are some examples: anxiety, negative thoughts, parenting a child with mental issues - and so much more. We will be looking at these topics from a Christian perspective.

I believe listening to this podcast will leave you feeling excited, educated, and empowered.

We are in the middle of a series about mental health. May is Mental Health Awareness month. I am so excited about this series. I hope to debunk myths about mental health issues, provide resources, help you gain insight that will help you understand mental health issues. We’re going to be talking about addictions, bipolar, suicide, and childhood mental illness.

Today we are in for a treat. Jenni Hubby is one of my favorite people. Her energy is infectious and the warmth of her spirit is so encouraging.

In this conversation

  • we talk about her story with addiction

  • having old mindsets sparked during crisis

  • how as a professional coach, she is helping her clients not only survive during this season, but to thrive.

Jenni is a Professional Certified Coach, credentialed through the International Coach Federation. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. Before becoming a life coach, Jenni was in business development and marketing in the field of addiction and mental health treatment. She is very passionate about helping people recover from these issues because recovery is a big part of her story.

Jenni is President of JhubConsulting.com. She provides coaching intensives and retreats for high achievers that feel like they’re falling short in some area of their life. She loves helping her clients break through barriers that block them from having what they desire most in their life.

Jenni and her husband, Meade, live in Flower Mound, Texas with their 2 active hound dogs: Lacey and Blaze. They have 3 grown daughters: living in Austin, Liberty Hill, and LA. And the cutest ever grandson, Axel, that is 19 months old. In her spare time, Jenni writes poetry and lyrics. And she serves the Board of a non-profit called Artists and Musicians in Recovery.

MC: I always like to start off really broad. What is an addiction?

JH: Disease of the brain that ultimately results in a kind of brain Hyjacking. Addicts continue use despite progressively negative consequences.

MC: What are the different types of addiction?

JH: Substance and Process

MC: I have seen a genuine faith and Hope in Christ help so many but religiosity brings shame and stunt growth. I’m curious about your thoughts on faith and addiction; and religiosity and addiction.

JH: Glad to speak to this. Since I was raised as Preacher’s kid. When you understand the problem, you understand the solution. Faith is total surrender, I had to be humble enough to take instruction.

Ephesians 6:11

Gratitude is the best medicine.

MC: For the reader who is battling addiction, what would you tell them?

JH: It’s great. It gets bad. It gets worse. It will stop one day; either by being locked up, covered up, or sobered up.

But seriously, there is an easier softer way.

MC: For the readerr who has a loved one battling addiction, what’s one thing you would like them to know?

JH: You didn’t cause it. You can’t cure it. And you can’t control it.

The more you understand about problem, the more you can be part of the solution.

MC: What podcasts are you into right now?

JH:

Gateway Church

Winning Walk – Ed Young Houston

MC: What book are you reading or recently read that you’re loving?

JH:

Novels At Home in Metford

When Pleasing You is Killing Me

Letting Go

MC: Where can we find you?

JH:
